Get prepared for hosting guests this spring and summer by making some adjustments to your apartment for allowing extra people in your space. Today the Windrift Blog is focused on some ways to successfully provide accommodations for guests visiting Orlando, FL.
Be welcoming. A good way to help a guest feel welcome is to provide some essential (and nonessential) items in a pretty basket. Include the guest Wi-Fi password, a charging bar or powerstrip for phones and other mobile devices, a list of phone numbers and your schedule, mints, snacks, earplugs, sleeping masks, a flashlight, and other items you can think of. These kinds of items can make a guest feel at home away from home and provide answers before they even have to ask questions.
Decide where are they going to sleep. Depending on your circumstances, that may be a fold-out sofa, a daybed, a futon, an air mattress (splurge for the kind that is a couple of feet off the floor and inflates and deflates quickly), or even a camping cot. Ideally, the guest can use a second bedroom, or perhaps the office or den. If those places aren’t available, the living room becomes a de facto guest room. Make sure the sheets are clean. Throw them in the dryer with a dryer sheet before making the bed to help them feel fresh and static-free. Offer plenty of blankets and pillows, and even a fan, if it is warm.
Offer guests a place for them to put their things. Clear out a drawer or shelf, or even provide a folding suitcase rack (like those found in a hotel) so your guest will have a clearly defined place to put their things. Also provide some hangers and indicate a place they may hang things. (An over the door hook is a good option for this.)
If a guest is in the living room, it can be a good idea to provide a screen for privacy; if that is not available, mention or post scheduled times, working around your schedule, that the bathroom will be available. Provide a basket of travel-sized toiletries for your guest — a new bar of soap, shampoo and conditioner, and a new toothbrush are a nice touch. Make sure the bathroom is clean and pleasant smelling.
The most important thing is to simply enjoy your time with your guests. Being a prepared host helps with that! Share your favorite tricks for hosting guests in our comment section!
